Jim Flaiz grew up in Geauga County and has been a South Russell
resident for over 23 years. He is a graduate of Notre Dame-Cathedral
Latin High School, The Ohio State University and the
Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. Before being elected Geauga County Prosecutor, Jim was a member of the South Russell Village Council for 6 years where he was Chairman of the Safety Committee and served on the Finance Committee. As the Council's representative to the Planning Commission, he worked on a number of issues including rewriting part of the Village Zoning Code. As an attorney, his practice areas included: juvenile law, criminal defense, mediation and general civil litigation. Jim also served as a Guardian ad Litem for abused and neglected children. He has also served as an Acting Judge as well as a substitute prosecutor in the Chardon Municipal Court. As an active member of the legal community, Jim is a Past President of the Geauga County Bar Association where he served as a member of numerous committees and was the County Prosecutor’s Appointee to the Geauga County Law Library Resources Board. He is a two time Past President of the Geauga County Law Library Board of Trustees and was active in its expansion project. He is a past President of the Bellwood Lake Homeowners Association Board of Trustees and member of the Lake County Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Chagrin Valley Jaycees, and The Ohio State University Alumni Association.
